I was very pleased this year to be awarded the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Engineering Leaders Scholarship, given to 35 engineering undergraduates. Beyond the hours spent working on group projects within my chemical engineering degree, I have been involved with extracurriculars such as being vice president of the Chemical Engineering Society. Outside of this, my experience of being involved in the university’s sports teams and academic discussions such as the first-year energy debate added multiple facets to my leadership experience and strengthened my application greatly.
I look forward to using the financial support offered to undertake international volunteering and language courses, and I am excited to become a part of the alumni network which I have no doubt will continue to be invaluable as I begin my career. I would encourage any students who are in their penultimate year or earlier, studying any engineering degree to apply in November and would be more than happy to provide guidance on any students’ applications. I hope that through paying forward this guidance, a legacy of successful scholars can be developed from the University of Leeds’ engineering faculties!
